Meet our phenomenal Guest Conductor and see him in action!

Daniel Bartholomew-Poyser is a Canadian orchestral conductor. He is best known for creating and conducting shows designed to introduce orchestral music to groups outside of its traditional audiences, such as by blending classical with contemporary genres and centring on themes targeted to groups who do not typically attend the symphony.

He is the Principal Youth Conductor and Creative Partner for the National Arts Centre Orchestra, artist in residence and community outreach coordinator with Symphony Nova Scotia, and the education conductor and community ambassador for the Toronto Symphony Orchestra. He has also appeared as a guest conductor with orchestras including the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra,  and the Washington National Opera.

Disruptor Conductor, a 2019 television documentary film by Sharon Lewis, profiled Bartholomew-Poyser’s work on four shows in 2018: a string quartet performance for prisoners at the Grand Valley Institution for Women; a show with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra designed to accommodate the special needs of children with autism; a show with the San Francisco Symphony which connected classical performance with African music by incorporating African drumming performed by Magatte Sow; and “Thorgy and the Thorchestra”, a show starring drag performer and classical violinist Thorgy Thor.

GSO Kids Club is a free and fun Symphonic Club for Kids 6-13 and their parents/grandparents/Guardian

 

Our first event is Sunday October 2nd at 3pm, River Run Centre

  • Time of the concert? 3pm (guests will be asked to arrive by 2:45 so everyone can be seated) The concert is 60 minutes-there is no intermission. After the concert, families will be invited to join Daniel for ice cream and autographs!
  •  River Run is an accessible theatre. Please indicate on the list if someone needs accessible seating.
  • Is there transportation to the event? Yes, with River Run event tickets, Guelph Buses will provide free rides
