The GSO is thrilled to have received a grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation to create a music program, as part of the International Baccalaureate Elementary Program at Sacred Heart Elementary School, in the 2018- 19 season.

This project aims to cultivate in young audiences a passion for and awareness of music through a direct and integrated experience. Through a series of themed concerts with members of the Guelph Symphony Orchestra, as well as via pre-and-post concert learning labs with music specialists Catherine Molina (General Manager, Principal Violist, RCM Examiner) and Joe Ringhofer ( Chief Examiner Emeritus of the Royal Conservatory of Music, narrator, theory specialist) students will learn how music and story-telling come together, and experience musical instrument presentations followed by a ‘hands on’ opportunity to try the instruments. It is also our priority to train and mentor the classroom teachers in order to maintain the learning dynamic between specialists’ visits.

It has been incredible to see the transformation of the students and to witness such openness to embrace each lesson and experience . We are greeted in the hallways with , “It’s the “Great Symphony Orchestra“! How fantastic is that!
