Hansel and Gretel
Inspired by GSO supporter and Syrian Refugee Sponsor, Jim Estill, (CEO of Danby) and with the assistance of TD Canada Trust, GSOKids Club members were paired with similarly aged, recent immigrants. This musical adventure culminated in an onstage performance as angels and gingerbread children, in GSO’s February production of Hansel and Gretel.
GSOKids had the opportunity to take part in a 30 minute interactive workshop, led by GSO tuba player, Jon Rowsell, with a special appearance by our trumpet soloists, the Blundell family, and then joined us in the main hall to watch the second half of the concert; a fully costumed, 40 minute presentation of highlights from the Nutcracker, performed by the young artists of the Oakville Ballet.
“Meet the Musicians and their Instruments”
Periodically, during the GSO Concert Seasons, the kids (and parents) were introduced to the fascinating world of Musical Instruments by GSO musicians in the lobby of River Run Centre during the first half of a concert. They then joined the audience for the second half of the concert, to watch and hear these instruments in action.
