Kim Christensen
Horn
An accomplished horn player, Kim Christensen is a performance graduate of Wilfrid Laurier University. She advanced her orchestral training at the Glenn Gould School of Music. Her extensive performance career includes serving as the previous principal horn of the Calgary Civic Symphony under the direction of Rolf Bertsch and past member of both the Kitchener- Waterloo Symphony and the Niagara Symphony Orchestra.
Alongside performing, Kim has been teaching young musicians for the past 17 years as an instrumental music teacher. When she isn’t on stage or in the classroom, she manages her busiest and most rewarding role yet: being a proud mom to three wonderful kids!
What inspired you to pick up your instrument for the first time, and how has your journey evolved since then?
My high school music teacher, Mr. Mullen. I wanted to learn trumpet and he chose horn for me!
Can you share a memorable performance moment that still resonates with you today?
Yes! Playing principal horn for Mahler 2 with the Calgary Civic Symphony - what an experience and pleasure!
How do you balance the demands of practice and performance with your personal life?
Creating beautiful music with beautiful people is a HUGE bucket-filler for me. Knowing this keeps me excited to prepare for upcoming shows!
If your favourite animal or pet could conduct the orchestra, how might their unique personality influence the music?
My golden retriever, Reggie! He would bring TONS of energy and life to the program!
What is the best thing about being a member of Guelph Symphony?
The people!!!
