Daejun Kang

Double Bass

Daejun Kang is a double bassist currently performing as a freelance musician in Canada. He is a member of the Guelph Symphony Orchestra and Korean Canadian Stmphony Orchestra. Kang began his orchestral training as a member of the Toronto Symphony Youth Orchestra from 2008 to 2011. He later attended the Wabass Music Festival and participated for several years in the Orford Music Festival with scholarships.
He completed his undergraduate studies at Korea National University of Arts and earned his graduate degree from the University of Ottawa. In 2021, he was selected for the National Academy Orchestra of Canada under Boris Brott and also participated in Jeunes Virtuoses de Montréal under Denis Brott.

What is one piece of advice you would give to aspiring musicians?
Everyone has different learning speed. It’s hard to not compare yourself with others but you have to focus on your own race.
