Jeryl Phillips

Horn

Jeryl has been with the GSO horn section since 2014. Her passion for the instrument began in her early teens, and over five decades of orchestral playing, has led to a lifelong dedication shaped by both musical appreciation and deep community.
The best part of being with the GSO is being able to come together with an incredible conductor to create inspiring music where previously, there were just notes on a page. Outside of the rehearsal hall, she enjoys social times with the many of the musicians, including the ever-popular dinners at the Red Papaya.
She enjoys close ties with Guelph, with her husband in the orchestra and her son, daughter, son-in-law and young granddaughter living here.

Can you share a memorable performance moment that still resonates with you today?
Her most memorable experience was playing Beethoven Ninth Symphony with a large orchestra and professional choir. The physical sensation of the full orchestra in front and the power of the choir directly behind, created an unforgettable harmonic “sandwich” of glorious sound!
